Connect your own Linux server

Most people take this route. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing beyond the server you already have.

What the machine needs

  • Linux, x86_64 or arm64, with root access. The installer writes a system service.
  • Outbound internet access. Nothing needs to reach the machine from outside: no open port, no certificate, no public IP.
  • Enough memory for the sessions you plan to run at once. A resident session uses roughly 300 to 400 MB, so 1 GB of usable memory fits one session comfortably. Measurements.
  • tmux and curl. If they are missing, the installer adds them along with everything else it needs.

Register it in the console

In the console, under My servers, give the machine a name (ali, studio, anything you will recognize later). Registering gives you a token that starts with rsv1_. It is shown once and never again.

The token is that server's credential. Keep it only in that machine's own config file, not in a chat or a ticket. If you miscopy it, revoke it and register again. There is no recovery.

The subscription limits how many machines can be registered at once: 10. It does not limit how many sessions run on your own machine. That depends on the machine's memory.

Run the install command

As root on the server, with the token you were just given:

curl -fsSL https://roamai.cloud/install.sh | sh -s -- rsv1_your_token_here

The command installs what it needs, sets the service to start on boot, and connects to your workspace. The console shows this exact line with your token filled in, so there is nothing to assemble by hand.

Confirm it connected

The machine turns green in the console as soon as it connects. No refresh is needed. Until then it reads Registered, not connected.

If it stays that way for more than a couple of minutes, start here.

Upgrading, adding, removing

  • Upgrading: run the same command again. It is safe to repeat and keeps the existing registration.
  • Another machine: register it separately. One registration is one machine.
  • Removing one: revoke it in the console. The token stops working immediately, and its connections are closed within ten minutes.
