Turn off telemetry in Claude Desktop and Claude Code

Claude Desktop and Claude Code send usage analytics, crash reports and performance data to Anthropic by default. Both have settings that turn this off. This program switches them all off in one run, and can switch them back.

Download and run

Copy the lines for your system into a terminal and press Enter. The program edits only your own user's settings files. It needs no administrator rights; do not run it with sudo.

macOS, in Terminal:

It lists each file it changed. Running it a second time reports that telemetry is already off and changes nothing.

On macOS, download it with the command above. A copy downloaded in a browser is blocked by the system, because the program is not signed.

Restart both apps

  1. Quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again. Closing the window does not quit it; choose Quit from the menu.
  2. Close any running Claude Code sessions and start them again. Only new sessions pick up the change.

Restore the defaults

Run it again with -undo from the same folder, then restart both apps as above. It removes only the settings it added.
